The London Brick – sometimes referred to as the Fletton Brick – is a clay brick that is primarily made from clay quarried in the UK and pressed into a mould before being fired in a kiln. The natural properties of the clay give it advantages in compressive strength, density, and mortar adhesion.

Yes, we still manufacture London Brick products in the UK at the Kings Dyke factory in Whittlesey, Peterborough, which was opened in 1969, but we’ve been making bricks in the UK since 1877!

The dry weight of a London Brick is 1.95kg or 4.29lbs.

The standard amount of bricks per pack across the ranges is 390, however the Brindle range comes in a pack of 396.

Yes they are manufactured to British Standards BS EN 771-1.

It’s worth considering they are a natural product, and as with any natural resource there can be variation in composition, and moisture content meaning they can as an example contain variations in natural deposits such as mineral salts, this variation means there are some tolerances allowed for in the final finished product.

The Original London Brick has been used in the construction of over 5 million homes. Builders and specifiers can be confident of the product’s ability to colour match existing dwellings and provide quality and reliability. The range has a variety of colours and textures, from the classic Rustic London Brick, to yellows and buffs, such as Saxon Gold and Hereward Light. There are 23 bricks available in the standard 65mm size, with 4 types available in 73mm.

Lay London Bricks with the frog facing upwards for maximum strength and density, and also for maximum rain penetration protection; when neither is required, as in most low-rise dwellings, bricks may be laid frog down.

Mortar mixes for London Bricks Internal and external from DPC to eaves: (Class M4 Designation iii) 1 : 6 Portland Cement : sand + plasticiser or 1 : 1 : 6 Portland Cement : lime : sand + plasticiser. Note: For rendered brickwork use sulphate-resisting cement.
