London Brick donates 3,500 bricks to help transform Surrey home for paralysed construction worker

London Brick has played a key role in helping national charity Band of Builders transform the home of a paralysed man in Addlestone, Surrey, by donating 3,500 London Brick Heather bricks.

This popular brick was specifically chosen to match the existing brickwork, helping to create a seamless extension that now houses an accessible bedroom and wet room.

Making a difference together

Band of Builders, a registered charity, delivers practical projects for members of the UK construction industry facing life-altering illness or injury, supported by volunteers and donated materials to make a lasting difference!

In 2021, Jewson employee Paul Kitterman went to A&E with a bad back, he was diagnosed with a spinal abscess. It was also discovered that he had also contracted pneumonia & sepsis, which led to him being placed in an induced coma. Paul has made remarkable progress with the help of specialist spinal and rehabilitation units, as well as the support of his wife Sasha, however the spinal abscess left him paralysed from the waist down.

Building a new future at home

Band of Builders stepped up to arrange the construction of a new ground-floor bedroom and wet room with the help of members from its strong community, alongside companies like London Brick donating materials.

The 3,500 London Brick Heather bricks were donated to ensure the extension matched the original structure, helping to maintain the character and appearance of the family home. The London Brick range has long been trusted by builders and homeowners, having been used in the construction of more than five million homes across Britain.

Band of Builders Operations Director Tony Steel said:

“We’re delighted to have completed our 43rd project — something we couldn’t do without the generosity of all those who volunteer their time and materials. We’re incredibly proud that we’ve helped a fellow member of the construction community regain his dignity and privacy in his home, and we’re grateful to London Brick for their support in this endeavour.”

This project is part of London Brick’s wider commitment to supporting communities across the UK through donations of materials and involvement in charitable construction projects.
